I attended Ann Arbor Public Schools in Michigan and graduated from Community High School in 1976, learning data processing and several programming languages.

After moving to Oregon in 1990, I studied at Lane Community College and the University of Oregon, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997 with cum laude honors, majoring in political science, and minoring in geography.

My political science coursework included political theory, comparative politics, United States politics, public policy, and research methods. I satisfied my foreign language requirement by studying French and my science requirement with geology.

I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies.
